Silkeborg Introduction
Silkeborg IF (in short SIF) is a Danish professional football club based in the city of Silkeborg, in the middle of Jutland. Silkeborg IF plays in the Danish Superliga. The club was founded in 1917 and they first reach the highest level of football in Denmark in 1987, at that time called 1st division today known as Superligaen. Since then, they only had a short spell in the second highest level between 2003–04 and 2007-09. Silkeborg IF has been mostly successful in the 1990s, achieving a first place in the league in 1993-94, a second place in 1997-98 as well as a Danish Cup victory in 2001. They have qualified for Europe several times, but have lost to great teams like Spartak Moscow (in 1996), AS Roma (in 1998) and Real Zaragoza (in 2001).
