Though Left, Sweden Hold Their Head High with Vicotry
Zlatan Ibrahimovic 's remarkable goal played a critical role for Sweden's victory which contributed to one win before the squad depart UEFA Euro. And at the same time, they force France to rank second in Group D who are going to meet Spain in the game.
Even though France ranked first before this match, they actually did not get the official qualification to quarter finals yet. France had recognized very early that they could progress even if conceding one goal. However, the final result doubled, Zlatan Ibrahimović's fantastic goal and Sebastian Larsson 's score ended 23rd unbeaten France record, which told us Sweden didn't relinquish victory. The other game in the same group, England 1 – 0 Ukraine, so England's point is over France who will have a match against Spain on Saturday in Donetsk. Particularly worth mentioning is that Donetsk is France's training base and at here they had previous two group matches.
It is no wonder that Sweden end up the last one in group. But supported by almost fans in the stands, they fully got into the game straight away. Ola Toivonen who replaced Johan Elmander had his header just gone wide; soon afterwards Kim Källström threatened France's net by exquisite skill; and Larsson had a shot blocked by Hugo Lloris. At the other end Andreas Isaksson successfully blocked close shoot from Franck Ribéry.
And in no time the goal kept by Lloris was in danger again. Toivonen burst into the box after escaping from Philippe Mexès, pushing the ball past goalkeeper, but unfortunately the angle left was to narrow which resulted in the ball hit the outside of the post. Then Karim Benzema gave one foot shot slightly higher than the beam again. The match became a little heavy. To Emir Bajrami who replaced Rasmus Elm, this is the first Euro game he participates and he created big troubles on Sweden flanks on behalf of France.
Many exciting moments were happening in the first half, Benzema assisted Ribéry while whose shot wide. The tempo slowed down might result from Christian Wilhelmsson replaced Bajrami to participate the game and his appearance quickly menaced France's defense.
Benzema had the first Scoring opportunities in the second half, while the shoot wide. In the 53rd, Lloris's brilliant save left Larsson returning without anything. And less than one minute, France's goalkeeper could no longer save their goal that Larsson crossing and Ibrahimović superbly twisting his body for a flying volley from the edge of the area.
Subsequently Zlatan Ibrahimovic finished off a superb pass to Wilhelmsson, but Lloris stood at good position and quickly tipped over from Olof Mellberg. Florent Malouda replaced Hatem Ben Arfa and France rallied. Deputising for the injured Yohan Cabaye, Yann M'Vila sent a powerful strike which was well blocked by Isaksson.
Nasri's crossing was merely falling into Mexès, but with the Mellberg's sudden broke in, the ball was perfectly blocked. Jérémy Ménez had his appearance and in a short time his strike was saved by Isaksson. In the following corner kick, the other substitude Olivier Giroud had his shot wide under the unmarked condition. Finally Sweden demonstrated their courage and power. The substitute Samuel Holmén hit the crossbar and Larssson netted on the rebound. In spite of the progress qualification, France will face Spain without Mexès because of his second booking.
